| UTC() The UTC() method is used to create a date in UTC time. UTC is basically GMT time with a different name. While there are many different methods available to set the date and time, this method is a sort of shorthand method which encompasses all the capabilities of the various "set" and "get" UTC methods. All aspects of the date and time from the day of the week to the milliseconds of the day are available through this time saving "shorthand" method. Examine the syntax and example below to get a feel for this method. syntax: UTC( yyyy, mm, dd [, hh [, mm [, ss [, msecs] ] ] ] ) EXAMPLE dateObject = new Date(Date.UTC(1999, 11, 20, 8, 9, 11) ); document.write("The date is: " + dateObject.toUTCString()); The example shows the creation of a new Date object, called dateObject. The setDate() method is then set to "1999, 11, 20, 8, 9, 11". Then a document.write statement is declared with the toUTCString() method to display the new value of the dateObject after the string of text. It should look like the following: The date is: Mon, 20 Dec 1999 08:09:11 UTC |
